Tot Program
The primary goal of our Tot Program is to provide a fun, safe, and structured environment for children to develop physically, mentally, and socially through gymnastics. Our secondary goal is to prepare the children for the first two levels of the National USAG Gymnastics Program. Not every skill learned will be strictly gymnastics, but our stations, drills, and games will improve their ability to perform in all sports. A few stations dispersed throughout the program are focused on the skills that many schools look for when evaluating new children (such as fine motor skills or problem solving).
There is a wide diversity in the development and maturity of such young children. Due to this, we start all beginner children out in an evaluation class. This class is designed to test the child's ability to follow directions to insure the structure and safety of the following levels. Once this child passes this level, they will progress through the following levels at his or her own rate regardless of age.
The basic skill requirements are listed in the table below and are divided into the 4 events in gymnastics. Again, these will not be the only skills worked on, but these are the skills required to move up. The floor set up for the week for all levels will be basically the same; however, what the children are expected to do on each piece of apparatus will differ greatly.
